Finish planting Dahlia Tubers (4-6″) deep in well prepared, enriched beds or containers of compost.

Pinch out tops of Broad Beans when in full flower.

Spray trunks and crowns of tree ferns regularly to stop them drying out in warm dry weather.

Remove the flowering shoots on Rhubarb (June onwards).

Regularly pinch out side shoots on tomatoes and ensure that the main stem is well supported.

Remove spent flowers from Camellias and Rhododendrons. Avoid damage to the brittle buds. They emerge just behind the blooms.

Thin fruit on plums to prevent over laden branches breaking, but wait till after the June drop of excess developing fruitlets raised in the greenhouse or conservatory.

Plant out sweet corn (16″) apart, but in blocks rather than rows as this aids pollination by the wind.

Leave roses that produce good hips without deadheading.
